Music

All students participate in a weekly classroom music program to deliver the Australian Curriculum Achievement Standards. This program is delivered across the school using the Curriculum into The Classroom (C2C) resource. Both Dean Hardy (Teaching Principal) and Penny Burdell (Teacher Aide/Instrumental Music Instructor) deliver the school's music program.

Students in year 3 have an opportunity to participate in additonal free afterschool non-performance based introduction to instrumental music.

Students in Years 4-6 have the opportunity to participate in our schools IDOL (Instrumental Drama and Other Learning) Music Program. The cost is $50.00 per year (a payment plan can be organised through consultation with the principal).

IDOL students have the ability to learn:

  • Drums
  • Guitar (Acustic or Electric)
  • Keyboard
  • Singing
  • Percussion

Students are provided with lessons outside of school hours along with optional lunch time rehearsals.

Students work towards two main public performances each year:

  • The Chillagoe Country Music Festival (held over the Cairns Show Holiday long weekend in July).
  • Presentation evening which is open to the community and visitors to attend at the Chillagoe Town Hall at the end of each year.
